IIWEY produces a very good 10" screen in their iK7, so I was expecting a lot from this 11" version called the iK11. We designed a new mount for the 470 and took it on the road. We're only testing the CarPlay support and audio via aux port.
First off, this model sits high. I'm 6ft tall with long torso, so a very tiny portion of the upper right corner blocks my view beyond the hood. If I was any shorter, though, it would block quite a bit of the view. With a 1280x800 resolution and 9.5" x 6", it's much larger than an iPad Mini, but slightly smaller than an 11" iPad in landscape orientation.
Advertised as an 11" screen, it has a 1/2" wide bezel on the sides and 1/4" top and bottom. Actual display size is 10" diagonally.
The colors are good, resolution crisp, though it could be brighter during the day at it's maximum brightness setting. There's no light sensor, so auto dimming is only possible by setting a time range and brightness setting for night driving. While this works, it's not synced to changing sunset and sunrise times. This lack of a light sensor is a common weakness across the vast majority of screens we've tested.
The advantage of the taller screen is with mapping. When oriented with your current driving direction always at the top of the map, you do get a better view of the streets and features ahead. Particularly when displaying the map in split screen with other apps. This is a weakness of the skinnier displays. Another advantage may be viewing videos through the included AirPlay support, depending on the media format.
A downside of a screen this tall, with the MeshHeavy mount, is that the center of gravity is so high that the top of the screen oscillates fore and aft in normal city driving. To use it on a daily, it would need some kind of shock support along the bottom between the corners of the screen and the bezel. I'm not confident on it's use off-road.
To mount this, we designed a custom mount for the unique shape of the mounting plate that Iiwey provides. It's a mid mount using a 17mm ball, but the mounting plate is unique.
Another issue is that the screen is not visible with polarized sunglasses. Basically, the screen looks black, unless you turn your head at an angle. This is a major personal issue.
For now, we're not going to officially support this screen with our mount. If you have this screen, or really, really want our mount, contact us.
Tested March 2026. Available on Amazon for about $149 at time of testing.
