One small note is that the packaging of this screen is very high quality. Most screens in this range come in flimsy, unbranded boxes. This one, however, is done with class. Does it reflect a higher quality build? Maybe or maybe not, but it sets a great first impression.
The wide, skinny screen in 10" fits well above the GX-470 nav screen. It doesn't obstruct much out of the windshield, yet is tall enough for the dashcam to record unobtrusively. The smaller form factor, with low mounting point, helps stability off-road, and it just feels like the perfect size.
Screen size is advertised at 10", but with bezels, the actual viewable display size is about 9.25". Screen brightness is great in full sun and it works well with polarized sunglasses. The auto dimming, like many of its bretheren in this class, is limited to setting a time range and brightness amount. This works fine in most cases, but doesn't adjust to conditions like entering tunnels or changing sunset/sunrise times.
We're in the Apple walled garden, so we have it set up for CarPlay exclusively. Android Auto is supported as well. Audio is set for Aux Out for audio, and we forgot to test FM connectivity. For Aux Out, audio is just fine and steering wheel volume control works great. CarPlay features work as you'd expect. No surprises here.
The center mounted dashcam is a nice feature. It's not full featured like good standalone dash cams, but perfect for most needs. From the factory, it's set at a middle resolution, but can be set to 4K, producing video at 3840x2160 pixels. The camera itself telescopes up and articulates, but with the MeshHeavy mount, it can stay at it's lowest level for great coverage.
Most of these screens with dash cams come with a generic SD card of questionable quality. This one comes with an IIWEY branded 64GB SD card with Class 10 and U3 markings. I can't attest to the quality, but at least they put their brand behind it.
One small quirk is I couldn't easily change the start up logo as it's generally done with most screens. This usually involves storing a custom boot_logo.jpg file on the SD card, and powering up the screen. At least, the start up logo isn't the weird Bugatti Veyron on many of these screens.
The second small quirk is that the power button on the top, passenger side can rattle. It took while to hunt it down, but once I applied a small piece of black, electrical tape loosely over the button, the rattle disappeared.
Because the rear connectors for this unit are on the passenger side, I'd recommend ordering the MeshHeavy mount with the connector for the cleanest look. However, this blocks access to the A/V In connector, so go with the connector if you need that. The connectors are nicely inset, so while a straight USB cable may be visible on the passenger side, it's pretty unobtrusive. I'd also recommend a right-angle Aux cable, if you're wiring up audio that way.
Price is moderate, but quality is high and this is a great unit for the breadth and depth of feature set. Recommended.
